Groundwater Solutions

Managed Recharge specialises in developing innovative solutions for groundwater management, optimising and protecting groundwater resources and dependent ecosystems, today and into the future.

Clients

Groundwater resources are reaching full allocation in many regions and regulatory controls around water discharge to the environment have become more rigorous in recent years, making managed aquifer recharge (MAR), groundwater replenishment, and aquifer reinjection ever more viable options for a range of clients.

Water Service Providers

The Water Corporation of Western Australia is leading the way with it's Australian-first Beenyup Groundwater Replenishment Scheme, currently recharging up to 28 GL of recycled water to Perth's confined aquifers each year, significantly bolstering the city's water supplies.  Regional water service providers are also increasingly recognising water-harvesting and aquifer-storage and recovery (ASR) as potentially powerful water management tools.

Local Government

Managed aquifer recharge is particularly well suited to Local Government requirements.  Local schemes, utilising storm-water runoff or treated wastewater are ideal for developing additional "fit for purpose" water supplies, keeping sporting reserves, parks and schools green and cool.

Where conditions allow, passive infiltration and shallow-well groundwater recovery schemes can be particularly cost-effective.

Mining Industry

Excess dewatering water from open pit or underground mining operations has historically been directed to surface water features, such as local creeks.  These days, environmental regulators are looking for more innovative and environmentally friendly options. Returning the water to a nearby aquifer, via a groundwater reinjection scheme, may be a viable solution, keeping water in the region for future use and minimising impacts to riparian and/or groundwater dependent ecosystems.
